Aries opens the zodiac the way spring opens the year: with a burst of fresh energy and a sense that anything is possible. If you're an Aries, you're wired to begin things. You see a door and you walk through it, and your courage often gives everyone around you permission to be a little braver too.
Personality
Aries folks are refreshingly direct. You say what you mean, you mean what you say, and you'd rather have an honest conversation than a polite runaround. Ruled by Mars, the planet of action, you're happiest when you're moving toward something: a goal, a challenge, an adventure, a new idea that won't leave you alone.
Under the bold exterior is a big, generous heart. Aries anger tends to flare and fade quickly, and you rarely hold grudges. You're the one who rushes to defend a friend, cheers loudest for a teammate, and believes in people before they believe in themselves. Your gift is momentum, and the world needs people who start things.

In love
In love, Aries is warm, playful and all in. You love the thrill of the chase and the excitement of new romance, and you show affection through action: planning adventures, showing up, protecting the people you care about. You do best with a partner who has their own fire and independence, someone who can match your energy and isn't afraid to tell you the truth.
As a friend
As a friend, you're the spark plug of the group. You're the one who suggests the road trip, organizes the game night and shows up first when someone needs help moving. Your friends love your loyalty and your honesty, even when it's a little blunt.
At work
Aries thrives where there's challenge, independence and room to lead. You light up when you can start something new, solve a problem fast or compete for a goal. Long stretches of routine can drain you, so look for roles with variety and a clear mission.
Taking care of yourself
Burn off that Mars energy with movement: a run, a workout, a dance session in the kitchen. Then give yourself permission to rest. Even fire needs to settle into embers sometimes.
Myth and history
In Greek myth, Aries is the golden-fleeced ram Chrysomallos, sent to rescue two royal children, Phrixus and Helle, from danger. The ram flew them over the sea; Helle slipped and fell into the strait later named the Hellespont, while Phrixus reached the land of Colchis. The ram's golden fleece became the famous treasure that Jason and the Argonauts set out to find.
Aries comes first because, about two thousand years ago, the Sun stood in front of this constellation at the spring equinox, the moment astronomers used to mark the start of the year. That point in the sky is still called the First Point of Aries, even though it has since drifted into Pisces.
Dear Aries, your courage is contagious. Keep starting things. Just remember to look back now and then and see how far you've come.
